Remote work is here to stay, and with that comes a new challenge for companies: keeping their brand image consistent when employees are scattered across the map. Recently, I had the chance to work with Good Culture, a food and beverage company, during their company retreat at the Fairmont Hotel in Santa Monica.
The goal? Give their peeps a fresh, cohesive set of headshots that they could all proudly share on LinkedIn.
The tricky part is that we had over 20 people to photograph, and only 5 hours to do it. That meant things needed to run smoothly and efficiently. To make it work, I set up a mini studio right across the hall from their meeting space at the Fairmont.
This made it super convenient for people to pop in for their headshots without missing a beat at the retreat. "During the planning and pre-production, Nic was organized, communicative, and made everything flow seamlessly,” said Amanda Perez, Creative Director at Good Culture.
Let’s be honest—most people don’t love getting their photo taken, especially headshots! But making sure everyone felt comfortable and confident was my top priority. I took the time to chat with each person, offer guidance on posing, and keep things light and fun.
This relaxed vibe led to authentic, natural expressions that really shone through in the photos. “Nic’s warmth and professionalism truly stood out. Every single person on the team had endless compliments about how comfortable she made them feel in front of the camera—no small feat when getting headshots taken!” And that’s exactly what I strive for: to put people at ease so their true selves can shine through.
Even though we were working on a tight schedule, I still wanted to give everyone plenty of variety. I captured a mix of seated and standing poses, offering a range of options that would enable them to feel connected to their bodies and not contrived in their expressions. The goal was to make sure each person came across authentically while maintaining a cohesive, polished look for the entire team.
Once the shoot was wrapped, I dove into post-processing, making sure each image looked sharp, consistent, and vibrant. My aim was to highlight everyone's best and unique features while keeping the overall feel fresh and professional. As Amanda kindly put it: “The final images blew us away. Her editing is top-notch, and the photos truly reflect the unique personalities of each team member.”
In the end, Good Culture walked away with a set of headshots that newly elevated their brand. Whether you see them on LinkedIn or their website, the team now has a unified, polished presence that’s as cohesive as it is dynamic.
Photographing a team of 20+ employees at a company retreat might sound like a whirlwind, but with careful planning and the right approach, it was a smooth and successful process. “The experience was absolutely amazing. From start to finish, Nic was a joy to work with.”
